About the position

The Electric Utility Electrician position at Silicon Valley Power involves performing inspections and maintenance on high voltage equipment in substations. This role is critical for ensuring the reliability and safety of the electrical infrastructure that serves the City of Santa Clara. Electricians in this position will respond to emergencies affecting substation equipment and work with various electrical components rated at 12,000 volts and above.

Responsibilities

• Perform inspections and maintenance on equipment in SVP substations.
• Maintain power transformers, circuit breakers, disconnect switches, relays, and ancillary control systems.
• Provide after-hours emergency response to events impacting substation equipment.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations during maintenance activities.

Requirements

• Graduation from high school or possession of a G.E.D.
• Status as a journey level electrician with proof of certification or completion of a formal electrician apprenticeship.
• Experience maintaining high voltage substation equipment, power generation equipment, or industrial manufacturing facilities.
• Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license.

Nice-to-haves

• Journey level experience maintaining solid state traffic signal equipment.
