Electric Meter Reader

About the position

The Meter Reader is responsible for reading electric meters in assigned areas, ensuring accurate billing and customer service. This role involves significant driving, customer interaction, and manual labor, requiring a commitment to safety and quality workmanship.

Responsibilities

• Drive and navigate throughout assigned regions to read electric meters.
• Enter residential and commercial properties to read meters and disconnect service.
• Interact with customers to collect payments or read electric meters.
• Collect cash and other forms of payment for electric service, reconciling and depositing daily.
• Work with energized electric equipment to disconnect service as needed.
• Demonstrate customer service skills with humility and respect for customers.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Two or more years of customer service experience.
• Ability to lift up to 80 lbs multiple times during a work shift.
• Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods, often under adverse climatic conditions.
• Ability to climb, dig, and work in tight spaces and on uneven surfaces.
• Ability to understand and follow specific oral and written instructions.
• Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid State of Residence Driver's License within two weeks of employment.
• Ability to pass motor vehicle, criminal background check, and comply with drug-free workplace policy.

Nice-to-haves

• Willingness and ability to learn additional skills.
• English usage sufficient to keep records and prepare simple reports.
