About The Position

Evaluates the expressive and receptive skills of individuals who take the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA). Works independently and in teams in a virtual environment. Attends monthly virtual meetings with the evaluation team. Evaluates on a consistent basis to ensure accuracy and consistency with the evaluation team.

Requirements

  • Extensive understanding of language variations, cultural contexts, and translation between ASL and English.
  • Demonstrate skills and techniques for analysis and transfer of message meanings to render effective translations and interpretations, whether consecutively or simultaneously.
  • Ability to critically judge and assess the skills and techniques for effective translations and interpretations.
  • Ability to analyze and apply knowledge of discourse settings and structures.
  • Knowledge of computer technology and virtual meeting platforms.
  • Bachelor's degree in interpreting, deaf education, linguistics, or related field required.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience working as a teacher, administrator, instructor, professor, and/or interpreter in a field related to deaf education, ASL Linguistics, or educational interpreting required.
  • Relevant certification or license (i.e., EIPA 4.0 or above, NIC, D/HH Endorsement, etc.) required.
  • Must be fluent in English and American Sign Language at an advanced level of proficiency required.
  • Experience in the application and evaluation of ASL linguistics required.
  • Access to a private high speed internet connection required.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree strongly preferred.
  • ASL Instructor preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Successfully internalizes evaluation training and measurement manual.
  • Evaluates receptive and/or expressive performance of test-taker candidates from across the United States and Canada.
  • Provides applicable feedback on educational interpreting skills for test-taker candidates.
  • Is able to put aside personal biases and apply measurement guide according to rubric requirements.
  • Meets quality and productivity requirements established for the evaluation program.
  • Works collaboratively with a diverse team of evaluators to conduct evaluations under the leadership of EIPA Coaches.
  • Attends mandatory monthly evaluation team meetings.
  • Maintains a confidential, private work environment without distractions to ensure the focus required for valid team rating.
  • Performs other duties and attends designated meetings assigned, which may include, but not limited to supporting workshops, preparing materials for research/presentations, participating in research, development of materials for stakeholders, participating in researcher validity testing requests, etc.
  • Follow ethical guidelines and ensure confidentiality in all review activities.
