About the position

At Lyten, we are leading a materials revolution by developing advanced supermaterials that will change the world. Our mission is to achieve gigaton-scale decarbonization impact, and we are building a new ecosystem of decarbonization applications to make this a reality. The Staff EH&S Professional will report to the Director of Environment, Health and Safety (EH&S) and will be responsible for developing, improving, and implementing EH&S programs to manage risk and ensure compliance with regulations at our facilities in California, Nevada, and Illinois. This role is based at our Corporate Headquarters in San Jose, California, and involves fostering a positive EH&S culture in a fast-paced startup environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, implements, and continuously improves EHS policies, programs and procedures required to maintain a safe workplace and adherence to regulatory requirements.
  • Establishes the Corporate EH&S training program to ensure Lyten employees are provided the training they need to do their jobs safely and protect the environment.
  • Conducts comprehensive risk assessments, developing tactics to reduce risk to tolerable levels.
  • Leads regular work area EH&S audits/inspections, documents findings, and works with business representatives to track them to closure.
  • Leads the effort to establish a Corporate EH&S Management System that conforms to ISO 14001.
  • Identifies projects and initiatives, establishes project plans, and successfully drives projects to completion.
  • Improves the EH&S culture by working cross-functionally and collaboratively with colleagues and senior leaders.
  • Leads EH&S business process improvement initiatives in support of our mission and objectives.
  • Supports emergency preparedness, response, recovery, and business continuity.
  • Contributes to the development of manufacturing, maintenance, and R&D safe work practices.
  • May manage external resources on limited scope projects.
  • Travel between Lyten facilities is required approximately 10-20% of the time.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in a relevant technical field (e.g., mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, chemical engineering, environmental health and safety) AND 5+ years of experience in Environmental Health and Safety within battery, semi-conductor, chemical manufacturing or similar industry OR Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical field AND 7+ years of experience in Environmental Health and Safety within battery, semi-conductor, chemical manufacturing or similar industry.
  • Instructional design experience.
  • Experience developing and implementing EHS-related training modules within complex, matrixed organizations.
  • Basic understanding of business process improvement methodology such as Lean, Six Sigma, and/or Agile.
