About the position

The Environmental, Health, and Safety Engineer at BD serves as the technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) compliance and maturity at the site. This role involves researching applicable norms, permits, and standards, integrating them into work processes, and leading sustainability projects. The engineer also plays a crucial role in maintaining the site's ISO 14001 certification and ensuring audit readiness.

Responsibilities

  • Key player in all Environmental, Health, and Safety initiatives on-site.
  • Acting as the deputy EHS Leader when the EHS Leader is absent.
  • Actively participates in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations.
  • Acts as a Subject Matter Expert as a member of the EHS Team.
  • Participates as an EHS expert in new equipment project teams, from design to operational stage.
  • Acts as an influential leader in site safety and sustainability campaigns.
  • Interacts with authorities and insurance companies on technical EHS topics.
  • Maintains technical expertise in Machine guarding, Lock out Tag out, and other relevant technical Safety programs.
  • Maintains knowledge of the site Sustainability targets and projects to ensure their achievement and completion.
  • Core contributor to the ISO 14001 certification.
  • Participates in EHS programs as requested.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Process Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 5 or more years of relevant manufacturing experience, or a Bachelor of Science or Associate of Science degree in a Technical Field or Environmental Health and Safety, Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Strong interpersonal skills in dealing with people at all levels and in various functions.
  • Effective skills in counseling, coaching, and influencing.
  • Demonstrated understanding of federal and state safety and environmental laws.
  • Ability to identify and evaluate workplace hazards and environmental issues.
  • Ability to work in a diverse team environment and lead a project or technical team.

Nice-to-haves

  • 1-5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience leading EHS projects and teams.
  • Has or willing to work towards an auditing certification.
