About the position

The position involves evaluating the intellectual, emotional, and behavioral functioning of referred students to determine their eligibility for special education services. The role requires selecting and administering assessments, scoring and interpreting test data, and participating in the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee to assist with the development of Individual Education Plans (IEP). The educational diagnostician will also provide staff development training, consult with teachers and parents, and maintain comprehensive records of assessments and evaluations. Compliance with federal and state regulations, as well as district policies, is essential in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Select and administer assessments and observations to evaluate students' functioning.
  • Score and interpret test data.
  • Conduct or participate in the ARD Committee for student placement and IEP development.
  • May serve as case manager for special education assessment processes.
  • Provide staff development training in schools regarding student needs.
  • Meet with parents to discuss background information and test results.
  • Consult with teachers and staff about students' educational needs and assessment data.
  • Assist in selecting assessment materials and equipment.
  • Compile, maintain, and file reports and records required for assessments.
  • Comply with policies established by federal and state law and local board policy.
  • Participate in professional development activities to improve job-related skills.
  • Maintain effective communication with supervisors, colleagues, students, and parents.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in educational assessment
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with special education endorsement
  • Valid Texas educational diagnostician certificate
  • 3-5 years public school experience as a teacher and educational diagnostician or 2 years providing psychology services in an educational setting
  • Knowledge of procedures for evaluating achievement and intellectual functioning
  • Strong consultation skills for conferencing with evaluation team members, teachers, parents, and students
  • Ability to interpret data and organize district-wide programs
  • Knowledge of Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and related state rules
