About the position

This temporary position is located in Rocky Mount - Nash County. The selected candidate will be needed to assist with meeting timelines for eligibility evaluations for children referred to the NC Infant-Toddler Program. This position will be assigned to the Department of Health and Human Services at 141 Storage Road, Rocky Mount, NC. Individuals hired into a temporary State job must be fully qualified for the job. OSHR supports the Governor's Job Ready initiative and seeks to expand a temporary's skill set to enhance their qualifications for State government and private sector jobs. Exposure to an agency's culture, process, procedures, and potential learning opportunities can provide valuable experience to those who may seek permanent employment with the state.

Responsibilities

  • Provide eligibility evaluations for children referred to the NC Infant-Toddler Program.
  • Assist with meeting timelines for evaluations.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in special education or psychology from an appropriately accredited institution; or Bachelor's degree in special education or psychology from an appropriately accredited institution, and two years of experience as a school psychologist; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • General knowledge of classroom techniques and academic activities at each educational level.
  • Considerable knowledge of educational measurements for children with special learning problems.
  • Considerable knowledge of the principles, theories, and practices of psychology as applied to children with special problems.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment in interpreting tests and appraising children's activities thus making sound recommendations and decisions.
  • Ability to prepare concise narrative summaries on diagnostic findings and to interpret findings to staff planning conferences.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with children, as well as professionals.
