About the position

The Education Diagnostician, under the direction of the Director of Special Education, implements, upon pupil referral, the assessment of educational functioning, the appraisal of intelligence factors, the collection and analysis data pertaining to sociological and other variables, and compiles the information from various diagnostic sources for the purpose of planning appropriate instructional arrangements.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews referrals and preliminary data for students on assigned campuses
  • Administers individual academic and intelligence tests to prospective and current special education students and students being evaluated under Section 504
  • Provides necessary assessment and admission, review and dismissals for students to stay within timelines
  • Observes individual students in the classroom
  • Schedules and holds consent meetings to obtain permission to assess a student
  • Organizes test and observational data into written report identifying areas of strength and weaknesses and making specific behavior management recommendations
  • Collects all evaluation data and schedules meetings of the Section 504 or Admission, Review and Dismissal Committee as needed
  • Insures that an appropriate individual educational plan or individual accommodation plan is written for each student enrolled in the programs of assigned campus
  • Holds parent conferences to interpret test results and to make recommendations for programming or further diagnosis when appropriate
  • Establishes and maintains rapport with students, teachers, colleagues, administrators, and community agencies
  • Participates in staffing for the least restrictive setting for students
  • Collaborates with PEIMS secretaries to assure that audit folders are in compliance
  • Serves as a resource person to school personnel and outside agencies for the interchange of information regarding special education programs, rules and local policies
  • Serves on the Section 504 or Admission, Review and Dismissal Committee as needed
  • Assists in collection of statistical data required for evaluation of the program, and for reports required by the Texas Education Agency and the federal government
  • Completes Medicaid billing through the SHARS program for testing, report writing, and conferences with parents and/or professionals
  • Continues professional growth by keeping current on legal issues and assessment instruments
  • Maintain a consistent professional demeanor and appearance
  • Ensure compliance with the Texas Educator's Code of Ethics
  • Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job

Requirements

  • Master's degree
  • Professional Educational Diagnostician Certificate
  • Valid Texas Driver's License
  • Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check
