About the position

The position involves assessing the educational, learning styles, and program needs of students referred to Special Education services. The role requires collaboration with instructional personnel to provide appropriate instructional programs for students with disabilities. Essential functions include modeling organizational beliefs and values, providing program support, and maintaining a commitment to the District mission.

Responsibilities

  • Select and administer formal and informal assessments to determine student eligibility for Education Services according to federal and Texas Education Agency regulations.
  • Compile and evaluate comprehensive student information including classroom observations, personal interviews, and relevant assessment data.
  • Participate in the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee to assist with interpretation of assessment data and development of Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  • Present staff development training in assigned schools to assist school personnel in identifying and understanding students with disabilities.
  • Assist classroom teachers with implementation of IEP.
  • Meet with parents to discuss pertinent background information and test results.
  • Consult with teachers and relevant staff concerning the educational needs of students and implementation of behavior intervention plans.
  • Consult with psychologists, psychiatrists, medical doctors, and community agencies concerning students' functioning as needed.
  • Participate in the selection of assessment materials and equipment.
  • Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of the assessment program.
  • Compile, maintain, and file reports, records, and other documents required.
  • Maintain confidentiality and develop systems for retrieval of information.
  • Pursue Professional Development activities for self and assigned staff.
  • Comply with all policies, operating procedures, legal requirements, and verbal and written directives.
  • Follow District safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Educational Assessment.
  • Valid Texas Teaching Certificate.
  • Valid Texas Educational Diagnostician Certificate.
  • Two (2) years classroom teaching experience.
  • Knowledge of diagnostic procedures, education of Special Education students, human development, and learning theories.
  • Ability to interpret data.
  • Strong organizational, communication, teambuilding, and interpersonal skills.
