About The Position

El Programa Hispano Católico (EPHC) is an organization dedicated to supporting individuals in achieving their full potential. The EKT Educational Assistant (EA) will support the Early Kindergarten Transition Program under the supervision of the EKT Teacher and SUN Site Manager. The EA will assist the EKT Teacher in all program aspects, work with small groups and individual students, and aid in recruitment during a two-week summer program at the SUN Community School. The program is designed to give children and families a strong start for kindergarten, focusing on academics, social-emotional learning (SEL), play, arts, music, exploration, and friendship development in a joyful and inclusive setting. SUN Community Schools function as social service hubs, empowering students, families, and communities through culturally specific advocacy, high-quality programming, and leadership opportunities.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to work well with a diverse group of individuals.
  • Ability to effectively follow both written and oral directions.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with staff, families, and students.
  • Experience with/or confident with public speaking
  • Must be able to organize work, take initiative, follow through, and pay attention to detail
  • Ability to lift 40 pounds.
  • Satisfactory results from civil, criminal, and motor vehicle background check required.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual preferred: In one or more of the following is preferred: Spanish, Russian, Somali, Burmese or Vietnamese.

Responsibilities

  • Support the EKT classroom teacher, parent educator, and the SUN Site Manager in preparing and implementing the program for incoming kindergarteners
  • Creating a welcoming, engaging, and joyful kindergarten transition program
  • Support in recruitment and family communication
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with students
  • Collaborates with SUN and parent educators
  • Attend all onboarding and training sessions before the program starts.
  • Attend the family orientation meeting in July.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Site Manager.
