About the position

The Educational Assistant IV - Severe Needs is responsible for providing assistance to special education teachers and addressing the medical and health needs of special education students. This role includes providing clerical support and assisting with various daily functions such as behavior support and life skills instruction. The assistant will implement daily and long-range lessons, help students with daily functions like food preparation, tube feeding, and toileting, and collaborate with the special needs team and other specialists. The position also involves developing and promoting good community relations among various community members and school clientele.

Responsibilities

  • Assist special education teachers in instruction and daily functions.
  • Provide clerical support as needed.
  • Implement daily and long-range lesson plans under the direction of a certified teacher.
  • Assist students with daily functions such as food preparation, hand over hand or tube feeding, and toileting.
  • Collaborate and consult with special needs team and other specialists.
  • Document health-related services in the designated Medicaid documentation system.
  • Administer and document prescription medication to students and perform medical procedures.
  • Communicate with parents and other school personnel as needed.
  • Respect confidentiality regarding student needs and abilities.
  • May assist and escort students in bus transference, which may involve lifting children and/or equipment.
  • May provide assistance in some therapeutic activities as prescribed by a therapist.

Requirements

  • High School or Equivalent education required.
  • Experience in an educational environment preferred.
  • Verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Ability to read and comprehend written/graphic and oral instructions.
  • Computer skills including word processing, database, and spreadsheets.
