About the position

Nea Community Learning Center (Nea) is an independent public charter school operated by Community Learning Center Schools, Inc. (CLCS), a public non-profit public benefit corporation in Alameda, California. Nea opened its doors in the Fall of 2009 and serves grades K-11 in two learning villages. Both villages have as their center a community learning space where both learners and facilitators interact with one and other. Facilitators are equal members of the learning community and will be expected to do work in the community space. Classrooms, conference rooms, labs and offices will be available for appropriate use. Nea website: http://neaclc.org The Education Specialist serves the Nea Community Learning Center by implementing the Special Education program, coordinating services, implementing IEP's, collaborating with general educators on pre-referral interventions, and providing referral and assessment services to the Nea community. The Education Specialist will support both the K-5 Village and the 6-11 Village and will uphold the mission and values of the Community Learning Center Schools.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct, individual or small group instruction to identified pupils on a regularly scheduled basis as required in the IEP.
  • Communicate, collaborate and consult with general education facilitators and other personnel working with learners with disabilities.
  • Participate as a member of the Student Study Team, refer and assess learners for initial and triennial evaluations and coordinate the assessment of those learners with other services providers.
  • Schedule, conduct and chair as appropriate all annual, triennial and all other IEPs, prepare draft paperwork, gather present levels of performance from general educators, implement follow up plans determined at IEP meetings.
  • Input all IEP information to the Special Education Information System (SEIS), generate progress reports according to established timelines, correct, affirm and attest all IEPs.
  • Implement, monitor accommodations/modifications and report progress of goals for learners with disabilities.
  • Provide other related services such as behavioral support to learners with disabilities.
  • Develop instructional materials and strategies for learners with and without disabilities in the general education classroom.
  • Develop instructional technology and strategies for its use for learners with and without disabilities.
  • Facilitate seminars to provide learner support.
  • Facilitate seminars in personal area of interest and expertise.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of, and support, the CLCS mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and the code of ethical behavior.
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned.

Requirements

  • Strong communication, collaboration and community-building skills
  • Outstanding staff development training and presentation abilities
  • Deep knowledge of Special Education laws, compliance requirements, and program design
  • Experience in performance assessment, both standardized and non-standardized
  • Strong problem analysis and problem resolution at both a strategic and functional level
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment; flexible, able to work autonomously as well as take direction as needed.
  • Ability and willingness to facilitate in subject areas outside of Special Education
  • Bachelor's Degree; Master's preferred
  • Valid California Special Education credential
  • CLAD/BCLAD Credential
  • Supplemental, secondary or Highly Qualified status in another field
  • 3+ years teaching Special Education in an inclusive setting
  • Proficiency with Special Education Information System (SEIS) preferred
