About the position
The Editorial Fellow position at Hola Cultura is a temporary internship role designed for young individuals aged 16 to 25 who are interested in journalism and communication. The Fellow will lead a team of interns and volunteers in Boston, focusing on storytelling projects related to climate change, environmental justice, and gentrification. This role involves participating in professional development training, conducting interviews, and producing original stories for online readers and podcast listeners, all while collaborating with a creative team to promote Latine culture and initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Lead teams of 3-4 interns and volunteers in producing interviews and stories for publication.
- Serve as mentors and project managers to interns.
- Collaborate with other SPEL story teams on special projects.
- Conduct interviews and work with the team to produce articles, podcasts, or other media.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or graduate degree in Journalism, Communications, or relevant fields.
- Good judgment, research skills, and commitment to accuracy.
- Ability to work independently, manage projects, and meet deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills are a plus.
- Familiarity with AP Style is a plus.
- Copyediting and headline writing skills are a plus.
- Video and podcast production and multiplatform editing skills are a plus.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience or strong interest in pursuing a career in journalism or related communication fields.
- Experience in mentoring or leading teams.
