About the position

The Editorial Associate for Biology at Princeton University Press plays a crucial role in supporting the Biology Editor in the acquisition, development, and publication of exceptional books in the field of biology. This position involves managing the biology list, coordinating peer reviews, preparing project budgets, and ensuring effective communication between authors and the Press. The Editorial Associate will also assist in the strategic implementation of equity and inclusion goals, manage a pipeline of projects, and support the overall editorial process from concept to post-publication.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Biology Editor in signing, developing, and publishing books in biology.
  • Manage the biology list, including coordination of peer review and project tracking.
  • Prepare project budgets and descriptions for meetings.
  • Handle contract preparation and tracking.
  • Maintain data integrity for a large pipeline of projects under contract.
  • Manage a book series and communicate with series editors.
  • Support the strategic implementation of equity and inclusion goals for the biology list.
  • Transmit manuscripts to production and conduct necessary research.
  • Facilitate general communication within the organization and with external stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year experience in acquisitions editorial within book publishing.
  • Strong communication skills for in-person and written formats.
  • Demonstrable time-management and organizational skills.
  • Computer proficiency, including databases and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team.

Nice-to-haves

  • Interest in science is preferred but not required.
  • Degree from a four-year college or university is preferred but not required.
