About the position

The ED Technician at Javon Bea Hospital campuses is responsible for providing patient care, preparing and compiling records, and processing orders in the hospital setting under the direction of nursing staff. This position is a pool/PRN role, requiring variable shifts and includes weekend and holiday work. The technician will support the nursing philosophy and may work during day, evening, night, and on-call hours. Responsibilities

  • Provides patient care as assigned and per routine, according to standards of care, shift routines, and policies and procedures.
  • Answers call lights in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Documents care provided according to standards.
  • Maintains a clean work and patient environment.
  • Maintains supplies, stocking new supplies and disposing of expired or damaged supplies.
  • Processes orders in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Answers the telephone and call lights appropriately and provides information or relays messages to patients and staff.
  • Directs visitors to patients' rooms.
  • Maintains medical records of current patients.
  • Processes patient charges and orders supplies as needed.
  • Participates in department or unit performance improvement activities.
  • Performs 12 Lead EKG's as directed.
  • Starts IV as directed.
  • Performs venipunctures as directed.
  • Assists ED MD's with intubation by gathering needed equipment.
  • Performs CPR and places the Lucas on patients during resuscitations.
  • Performs splint applications.
  • Assists with chest tube insertions by gathering needed supplies/equipment.
  • Performs BGM's as directed.
  • Transports non-monitored patients to the inpatient units.

Requirements

  • Completion of a CNA program, or
  • Graduate of a medical assistant program accredited by the ABHES or CAAHEP, or graduate of a medical assistant program in a postsecondary school or college with institutional accreditation.
  • Graduate of an Emergency Medical Technician program, or
  • Graduate of a Paramedic program.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certified as a Nursing Assistant in applicable state.
  • Certified as a Medical Assistant through the AAMA, RMA, CCMA, or NCMA certification.
  • Licensed as an EMT-B or EMT-A in applicable state.
  • Licensed as a Paramedic in applicable state.
  • Approved CPR or BLS certification required within 90 days.
