About the position

The ED-DR Patient Financial Specialist 1 is responsible for completing varied duties to support the revenue cycle, compliance, and patient experience by accurately and efficiently performing tasks in areas of registration, financial screening, verification, and patient throughput. This position requires meeting individual collection goals and maintaining a close working relationship with all members of the clinical team to ensure a seamless and positive experience for both patients and caregivers. The incumbent is considered essential staff and must be able to work as needed on weekends, holidays, and during disastrous events. This role may require the deployment of legal, ethical, and compliance-related documents that must be presented and thoroughly explained to the patient at the time of registration. The position practices the Baptist Health philosophy of service excellence in providing professional, passionate, and friendly service to patients of all ages, families, employees, physicians, and community members.

Responsibilities

  • Support the revenue cycle, compliance, and patient experience.
  • Perform tasks in registration, financial screening, verification, and patient throughput.
  • Meet individual collection goals.
  • Maintain a close working relationship with clinical team members.
  • Work as needed on weekends, holidays, and during disasters.
  • Present and explain legal, ethical, and compliance-related documents to patients.

Requirements

  • High School diploma, Certificate, GED, or equivalent training/experience.
  • Associates Degree preferred.
  • Complete and pass the Patient Access training course.
  • Experience in payment collection, billing, sales, and customer service.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, team player with excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask and have an agile mindset.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of healthcare regulatory guidelines (HIPAA, AHCA, EMTALA, etc.).
  • Understanding of insurance contracts, collections, authorizations, and pre-certifications.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office products and EMR applications.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish/Creole.
