About the position

The Early Intervention/Early Childhood Special Education Specialist position at the University of Oregon involves teaching and providing consultation for young children (birth to five years) with developmental disabilities and sensory impairments. The role is focused on delivering early intervention and special education services in various settings, including homes, preschools, and clinics, while promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace and service delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Teach young children (birth to five years) with developmental disabilities and sensory impairments.
  • Provide consultation concerning children with developmental disabilities in classrooms, homes, and community settings.
  • Travel to various locations throughout Lane County for service delivery.
  • Interact effectively with children while providing instruction, including bending, kneeling, or sitting at child-size tables and chairs.
  • Maintain high levels of confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA, FERPA, and agency protocols.
  • Develop and monitor Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSPs).
  • Assess and monitor child development for children birth to five years.
  • Provide instruction and consultation to parents of children with disabilities, including making home visits.
  • Develop and implement age-appropriate behavior management strategies.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues and community programs.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Early Childhood Special Education or a related degree.
  • TSPC licensure required or EI/ECSE Specialist authorization from the Oregon Department of Education within one year of employment.
  • Ability to travel to various locations throughout Lane County.
  • Valid CPR/First Aid Card.
  • Promotion of equity and diversity in all settings.

  • Exceptional prioritization of tasks and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • High level of professionalism and comprehensibility in communication.

Nice-to-haves

  • Proficient in Spanish.
  • Experience teaching preschool-age children with a range of disabilities.
  • Experience teaching children with autism, challenging behaviors, and/or multiple disabilities.
  • Experience with infants.
  • Experience in providing instruction and consultation to community programs.
  • Experience with assessing and monitoring child development.
  • Experience with developing and implementing behavior management strategies.
  • Experience training and supervising staff.
