About the position

The Residential Rehabilitation Counselor 2 at the Special Commitment Center (SCC) plays a crucial role in overseeing the daily operations of a residential unit dedicated to rehabilitating individuals with sexual offending histories. This position involves implementing effective treatment strategies, providing direct care, and ensuring the safety and security of residents in a structured environment. The counselor will work collaboratively with a team to support residents in developing life skills necessary for successful reintegration into society.

Responsibilities

  • Providing direct day-to-day monitoring and care for the resident population
  • Engaging with residents, assisting them in developing skills, and helping them become positive members of society
  • Assisting and coaching residents in acquiring life skills necessary for a successful transition back into the community
  • Instructing and encouraging residents while maintaining regular interaction and redirecting them when necessary
  • Staying informed about changes to residents' treatment goals and offering support and motivation
  • Escorting residents to and from different areas/locations within TCF
  • Monitoring resident use of prescription medications
  • Ensuring safety and security within the living environment through routine inspections
  • Providing accurate and detailed written documentation and reports on residents' progress toward treatment goals

Requirements

  • High school graduation or GED, along with 2 years of experience in providing direct care for individuals with behavioral health issues
  • Knowledge of CPR and first responder level first aid
  • Effective collaboration skills with staff and residents from diverse backgrounds
  • Acute awareness of safety protocols and strong judgment skills to assess environments and situations
  • Effective and flexible communication skills, including the ability to write comprehensive and concise documentation with attention to detail
