About the position

This position involves completing a 4-12 week training program, with internal training lasting 4-6 weeks and external training lasting 8-12 weeks, in preparation for a department manager role. The role requires travel within the division to train and provide relief, while creating an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service. Responsibilities include establishing and maintaining a safe and clean environment that encourages customer return, achieving sales and profit goals, and monitoring quality assurance standards. The position also involves directing and supervising all functions, duties, and activities for the department, supporting the day-to-day operations of the Drug/GM department, and promoting the company's core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Excellent oral/written communication skills.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations.
  • Basic math skills (i.e., counting, addition, and subtraction).

  • Establish performance goals for the department and empower associates to meet or exceed targets.
  • Develop adequate scheduling to manage customer volume throughout hours of operation.
  • Adhere to all local, state and federal laws, company guidelines, and food safety regulations.
  • Create an environment that enables customers to feel welcome, important, and appreciated by answering questions regarding products sold within the department and throughout the store.
  • Develop and implement a department business plan to achieve desired results.
  • Create and execute sales promotions in partnership with store management.
  • Inform and educate department associates about current, upcoming, and special in-store promotions, especially promotions that affect the Drug/GM department.
  • Prepare and submit seasonal critiques for the sales and merchandising supervisor, implement period promotional plan for department.
  • Maintain an awareness of inventory/stocking conditions; note any discrepancies in inventory.
  • Schedule daily, weekly, and monthly price changes by updating shelf tags and promotional signs.
  • Plan, organize and supervise the inventory process; monitor/control expenses for the department.
  • Train department associates on inventory/stocking and Computer Assisted Ordering (CAO).
  • Practice preventive maintenance by properly inspecting equipment and notify appropriate department or store manager of any items in need of repair.
  • Report all safety risks or issues, and illegal activity, including robbery, theft or fraud.
  • Supervise and coach direct reports in the performance of their duties; complete performance reviews and provide feedback to direct reports.
