About the position

The Drug/GM Department Leader is responsible for creating an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service while managing the Drug/GM department's operations. This role involves achieving sales and profit goals, ensuring quality assurance standards, and supervising all functions and activities within the department. The leader will also promote a customer-first strategy and uphold the company's core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Create an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service.
  • Establish and maintain a safe and clean environment that encourages customer return.
  • Achieve sales and profit goals established for the department.
  • Monitor and control all established quality assurance standards.
  • Direct and supervise all functions, duties, and activities for the Drug/GM department.
  • Support the day-to-day functions of Drug/GM operations.
  • Embrace the Customer 1st strategy and encourage associates to deliver excellent customer service.
  • Communicate company, department, and job-specific information to associates.
  • Develop adequate scheduling to manage customer volume during hours of operation.
  • Develop associates on performance of their job and participate in the performance appraisal process.
  • Adhere to all local, state, and federal laws, and company guidelines.
  • Create an environment that enables customers to feel welcome and appreciated by answering customer questions.
  • Gain and maintain knowledge of products sold within the department and respond to questions.
  • Offer product samples to help customers discover new items or products they inquire about.
  • Develop and implement a department business plan to achieve desired results.
  • Assist store management in preparing the store/department budget and profit and loss reviews.
  • Maintain an awareness of inventory/stocking conditions and note discrepancies.
  • Train department associates on inventory/stocking and Computer Assisted Ordering (CAO).
  • Practice preventive maintenance by inspecting equipment and notifying management of repairs needed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations.
  • Knowledge of basic math (counting, addition, and subtraction).
  • Effective communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Any management/Drug-GM/retail experience.
  • Second language (speaking, reading and/or writing).
