As a Driver License Examiner 1 with the Ohio Department of Public Safety, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and compliance of drivers on the road. Your primary responsibility will be to conduct examinations of applicants for vehicle operator's licenses. This includes physically accompanying applicants during road tests over a prescribed course, instructing them on the necessary maneuvers, and administering various driving tests for different classes of licenses, including Class D, motorcycle, moped, and restricted licenses. You will evaluate and grade the applicants' driving abilities, ensuring that only qualified individuals receive their licenses. In addition to road testing, you will also conduct written and oral tests to assess applicants' knowledge of traffic laws and road signs. This will involve administering eye tests to determine visual acuity and grading the tests to provide accurate scores. You will be responsible for entering applicant information into the Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) computer systems, which includes personal details such as name, date of birth, and social security number, as well as test scores and appointments. Responding to inquiries about the examination process and making driving test appointments will also be part of your duties. Your role will require you to maintain the cleanliness of the examination facility, prepare necessary forms, process applications for licenses, and order supplies as needed. You will be expected to perform other related duties as required, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the Driver Exam Services team. This position is full-time, with a schedule that includes working Tuesday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
