About the position

The Tactical Intelligence Operator position at the Texas Department of Public Safety involves advanced police and emergency management communications work. The role is critical in providing tactical-level intelligence during public safety or criminal events, ensuring the safety of law enforcement and the public. Operators will coordinate communication between various law enforcement agencies and respond to high-risk incidents, working under limited supervision with significant independence in judgment and initiative.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates communication between DPS officers and other law enforcement agency officials during emergencies.
  • Monitors and prioritizes incoming calls regarding public safety and law enforcement issues.
  • Researches and analyzes tactical-level intelligence information for law enforcement.
  • Performs analytical functions to support criminal investigations and homeland security.
  • Ensures effective communication center operations with field units and emergency service providers.
  • Maintains and processes data in the CAD system and TCIC/NCIC database.
  • Coordinates training and instruction for personnel as required.
  • Assists in the maintenance and troubleshooting of communications equipment.
  • May be required to qualify on shooting range and maintain proficiency with issued firearms.
  • Attends work regularly and observes approved work hours.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent is required.
  • Preferred: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university in a related field.
  • Minimum of four years experience in law enforcement crime analysis, dispatch, or emergency communications work preferred.
  • Must obtain FEMA; 700-a, ICS-800b, and TCOLE Telecommunicator License within 12 months of employment.
  • Must possess a valid driver license and automobile insurance.
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to direct and motivate others.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Knowledge of Federal Communications Commission rules and regulations.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
