About the position

The position involves reporting to the Operations Manager, Assistant Terminal Manager, and/or Terminal Manager. The role requires leading, guiding, and directing dock employees, including setting targets, monitoring performance, and providing coaching and development. The individual will be accountable for managing an efficient, clean, and safe LTL operation, which includes dock planning and scheduling. Compliance with company policies, safety rules, and government regulations is essential. The role also involves participating in hiring and termination processes, administering portions of the Terminal Business plan, and meeting all assigned KPIs. Daily utilization of company enhancement tools and processes is expected, along with reviewing and revising schedules to increase efficiencies and lower costs. The position includes responsibilities for equipment assignment and movement, ensuring proper communication with customers, and overseeing dock paperwork.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, guide, and direct dock employees.
  • Set targets and monitor performance.
  • Provide coaching, counseling, and development.

  • Enforce compliance with company policies and safety regulations.
  • Participate in hiring and termination processes.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED; Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Thorough understanding of the LTL trucking industry.
  • Prior management, dispatch, and dock experience required.
  • Knowledge of the local metropolitan area.
  • Strong leadership skills for hiring, coaching, and mentoring.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and listening communication skills.
  • Strong planning and organization skills.
  • Good computer skills (AS/400 & MS Office a plus).
  • Strong work ethic and problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to work an average of 50 hours/week.
  • Ability to work any shift, including nights and weekends.
  • Ability to lift approximately 20 lbs or more as required.
  • Compliance with all company policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team setting.
  • Capability to work under tight time constraints in a high-volume environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules and operational manuals.
  • Pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
  • Authorization to work in the United States.
