About the position

The Illinois Department of Corrections is looking for a highly motivated Account Technician I. The ideal candidate would be self-motivated, task orientated, and an organized individual with attention to detail. Responsibilities

  • Prepares institutional payroll.
  • Processes group insurance and employee retirement forms for the institution.
  • Processes worker's comp claims for institution; maintains records and assists employees with claim procedures.
  • Responds to payroll inquiries applying knowledge of payroll rules and procedures.
  • Maintains accurate, current, and continuous record of laws and regulations governing payroll, personnel rules, codes, worker's comp, group insurance, contract agreements for trades and state employee retirement system.
  • Assist Business Administrator of institution in preparation of annual budgetary needs and staffing plans for personnel services.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of those enumerated above.

Requirements

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of two (2) years of college AND completion of an approved training course OR three (3) years of related clerical bookkeeping experience.
  • Qualifying state employees in the employee Upward Mobility Program may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the stated requirements for this classification.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prefers at least two (2) years of work experience with state or non-state accounting procedures.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of work experience in general ledger accounting practices.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of work experience inputting and posting information to computerized accounting systems.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of work experience identifying errors and discrepancies in an accounting system.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of work experience with office methods and procedures.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of work experience creating and maintaining reports.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of work experience meeting deadlines.
