About the position

This position is shared with more than 1 campus and requires the upload of current certification or required licensure to the application. The primary purpose is to provide multi-sensory, systematic, and structured lessons designed to provide intensive reading and spelling instruction for students identified with dyslexia as mandated by the TEA Dyslexia Handbook. Responsibilities include monitoring progress, making recommendations for needed supports for program participants, identifying and providing appropriate interventions, facilitating §504 committees, and coaching teachers to ensure best practices in dyslexia intervention and student accommodations.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, manage, and implement standard protocol Dyslexia instruction using the district determined program.
  • Collect and interpret data regarding achievement of students with Dyslexia.
  • Provide progress reports to parents regarding program mastery concurrent with the issuance of report cards.
  • Remain informed of the Dyslexia Guidelines based on the Dyslexia Handbook from TEA.
  • Participate in Dyslexia PLCs.
  • Work collaboratively with others in supporting the district mission, district goals, and articulating a vision for the district's Dyslexia program.
  • Effectively communicate with parents, teachers, and administrators about needs and characteristics of Dyslexia.
  • Remain informed of the current research in providing support in the education of students with Dyslexia.
  • Monitor materials needed for Dyslexia intervention program implementation.
  • Encourage and promote parental and community involvement in the educational process.
  • Participate in ongoing personal professional development to help administrators, teachers and other educators improve their professional knowledge, competence, skill and effectiveness.
  • Demonstrate and consistently model procedures that encourage students to maintain focus during instruction.
  • Demonstrate effective classroom management skills in a small group setting.
  • Maintain and organize individual student files, both paper and electronic.
  • Monitor & document student progress and report this to campus and district personnel as well as general education teacher(s).
  • Maintain ongoing communications with classroom teachers and district personnel to ensure a successful transition for students.
  • Maintain ongoing communications with parents to discuss student progress and reinforce reading strategies at home.
  • Serve as a resource to classroom teachers and parents, providing professional learning sessions and suggested instructional strategies.
  • Cooperatively meet and plan with other members of the staff to implement instructional goals, objectives, and methods in accordance with district requirements.
  • Work cooperatively with special education teachers to monitor progress in the Dyslexia program as a part of the student's IEP services.
  • Maintain a positive and professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents, and community members through effective communication both verbally and written.
  • Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
  • Participate in the district staff development program to improve job related skills.
  • Participate and positively contribute to grade level and campus level collaboration.
  • Demonstrate interest and initiative in professional improvement.
  • Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
  • Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and professional development activities and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers including the Texas Educator Code of Ethics.
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Perform such other tasks & assume such other responsibilities as may be assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Bachelor's Degree in Reading - preferred
  • Texas Educator Certification with required endorsement for subject/level assigned (Elementary) OR
  • Licensed Dyslexia Therapist OR
  • Licensed Dyslexia Practitioner OR
  • Certified Academic Language Therapist OR
  • Certified Academic Language Practitioner
  • Knowledgeable about Dyslexia and effective intervention for treatment of Dyslexia
  • Experience working with students with dyslexia and providing appropriate interventions and/or accommodations
  • Understanding of dyslexia data and ability to interpret data for instructional purposes
  • Experience with administering and interpreting reading assessments
  • Ability and experience working with parents, teachers, and school administrators to provide knowledge and understanding of needs of students who learn differently
  • Effectively use instructional technology
  • Maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, employees, and others
  • Establish a supportive and compassionate relationship with students with special needs
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff, and others contacted in the course of work
  • Effectively communicate in a variety of settings (professional development, parent training, student interactions, etc.)

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience implementing Dyslexia intervention preferred
