About The Position

The District Academic Interventionist supports schools in improving student achievement by designing, implementing, and monitoring targeted academic interventions. This role focuses on assisting students who are not meeting academic benchmarks and working collaboratively with school staff to ensure effective instructional strategies, data-driven decision-making, and equitable learning outcomes across the district.

Requirements

  • Exceptional knowledge of the needs of students.
  • Knowledge of MTSS, and evidence-based intervention strategies.
  • Strong knowledge of current literacy research and best practice, specifically science of reading.
  • Knowledge needed to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and to speak effectively with students and/or employees in a school environment.
  • Knowledge of federal and South Carolina state laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge of effective and innovative instructional and student evaluation techniques.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Strong communication skills with students, staff, administration, and the public.
  • Understanding a child’s behavior and dynamics.
  • Skilled in problem solving and patience.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret literacy and math assessment data
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
  • Ability to fulfill the dexterity and physical requirements of the work and effectively attend to students.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measurement, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Application of percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Elementary or Early Childhood with appropriate South Carolina Certification.
  • Proven track record of improving student literacy and math outcome
  • Experience in curriculum development and instructional design
  • Must have and maintain a valid Driver’s License or ability to provide own transportation
  • May be required to travel to school district buildings and professional meetings
  • Prior to beginning employment, negative tb test results must be must be provided

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with district and school leadership to develop and implement academic intervention frameworks aligned with district goals.
  • Analyze student performance data to identify trends, gaps, and targeted areas for intervention.
  • Support the development and implementation of Tier II and Tier III interventions within a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS).
  • Provide coaching and guidance to teachers and instructional staff on research-based intervention strategies.
  • Assist in the selection and implementation of intervention programs, tools, and resources.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions and recommend adjustments as needed.
  • Support progress monitoring practices and ensure fidelity of implementation across schools.
  • Facilitate PLC Support related to intervention strategies, differentiation, and data analysis.
  • Work with school teams to develop individualized plans for students requiring intensive support.
  • Collaborate with special education, English learner, and other support services to ensure alignment of interventions.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress/outcomes and prepare reports on intervention outcomes and student progress.
  • Stay current on best practices in intervention, literacy, numeracy, and instructional strategies.
  • Assess student literacy and math skills using diagnostic tools.
  • Communicate student progress with teachers and families based on assessment data.
