About the position

The Distributor Business Manager is responsible for managing and growing a medium-sized volume territory by directing sales teams to achieve sales goals, maintaining positive relationships with distributors and customers, and facilitating product introductions. This role acts as a liaison between the principal's strategic goals and the distributor's needs, overseeing daily activities of the sales team and ensuring alignment with company objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Manage annual, bi-annual, quarterly sales numbers and objectives to ensure customer and company goals are being met.
  • Drive company sales by aggressively marketing and presenting manufacturers' products to maximize commissions.
  • Ensure Operator Specialist(s) complete their Call Reporting, Objective Planning, and LLO Maintenance in the CRM.
  • Manage daily distributor functions such as answering customer phone calls, reviewing respective buyers, verifying daily activities on the team, and scheduling meetings.
  • Use Game Changer to record sales activity and objective planning daily.
  • Make weekly closures to the targets in their Objective Plan.
  • Call-on and maintain a list of Large Leverage Operators (LLOs) to set up sales presentations and increase business activity.
  • Build and maintain distributor relationships by analyzing and reacting to distributor needs and introducing new products.
  • Prepare for and perform sales calls to set up appointments with distributor sales reps and/or customers.
  • Manage day-to-day activities of the sales team by scheduling staff and setting goals and objectives.
  • Conduct performance reviews on staff to ensure company goals are being met.
  • Prepare and present at sales meetings and trainings to introduce products and educate salespeople.
  • Manage manufacturer's marketing plan with distributor to maximize sales potential.
  • Conduct sales blitzes and competitive runs to increase sales and acquire leads.
  • Conduct marketing reviews with customers to discuss business activity and new opportunities.
  • Prepare reports to senior management and Principals regarding sales and market trends.
  • Develop sales budgets and plans with district managers.
  • Coordinate and prepare for food shows, sales meetings, and customer events.
  • Focus on competition by understanding the competitive landscape.

Requirements

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision and prioritize tasks.
  • Able to multi-task and provide superior customer service.
  • Good decision-making and negotiating skills.
  • Effective time-management skills and professionalism.
  • Must be able to lift 30 lbs.
  • Able to drive a vehicle for long periods to and from accounts.
  • Maintain a current and valid driver's license and auto insurance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prefer a college degree in business or related field or equivalent experience.
  • Culinary and/or operations experience preferred.
  • 2-5 years of previous sales experience.
  • Knowledge of brokerage business and relationship to Principals.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Experience using iPads.
