About the position

The Distribution Supervisor at Franz Family Bakery is responsible for managing and leading a 24/7 shipping and transportation operation. This role ensures the timely, accurate, and safe delivery of bakery products to various sales depots and bakery divisions. The supervisor will provide leadership, training, and oversight to department personnel, ensuring compliance with company standards and safety regulations.

Responsibilities

• Manage and lead a 24/7 shipping and transportation operation.
• Ensure timely, accurate, and safe delivery of bakery products to sales depots and other divisions.
• Schedule and manage employees including transportation drivers and checkers, ensuring compliance with DOT regulations and collective bargaining agreements.
• Determine and implement optimal usage of trucks and employees for shipping.
• Promote a safe working environment and address safety concerns promptly.
• Provide initial job training for safe work methods to shipping and transport personnel.
• Maintain clean, neat, and safe work surroundings.
• Ensure all employees are trained in job tasks and safety procedures.
• Coordinate with production supervisors regarding overages, shortages, or product quality issues.
• Communicate professionally with all customers, both internal and external.
• Investigate problems and recommend corrective actions as needed.
• Handle transport personnel accidents and coordinate drug testing when necessary.

Requirements

• Six years or more of experience as a Shipping Manager or Shipping Foreperson preferred.
• Commitment to safety with a proven record of safety success among supervised employees.
• Good interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Warehouse Management Systems such as PCDATA.
• Knowledge of DOT regulations.
• Experience in a union environment is helpful.
• Ability to work as a team member and independently under minimal supervision.
• Exceptional critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to organize work, establish priorities, and meet deadlines with minimal direction.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with various stakeholders.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
