Distribution Overhead Groundman

About the position

The position involves performing various manual tasks in the construction and maintenance of overhead power lines. This includes digging trenches, setting poles, installing wires and transformers, and performing routine maintenance checks. The role also requires assisting linemen with their tasks, assembling materials on the ground, and hoisting them into the work area using handlines. Additionally, the individual will assist other crew members in filling pole holes and trenches using a shovel, flag traffic, and set up job sites as directed. Maintaining organization of tools and materials on work vehicles and cleaning up and organizing job sites upon completion of work are also key responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Perform various manual tasks in the construction and maintenance of overhead power lines.
• Dig trenches, set poles, install wires and transformers, and perform routine maintenance checks.
• Assist linemen with their tasks.
• Assemble materials on the ground and hoist them into the work area using handlines.
• Assist other crew members filling pole holes and trenches using a shovel.

• Clean up and organize job sites at completion of work.

Requirements

• Valid CDL A is preferred but not required; must obtain within 90 days.
• Must be able to pass drug, alcohol, and background checks.
• Must be able to pass a physical examination.
• Able and willing to travel long distances on short notice.
• Able and willing to work for extended periods in various locations.
• Able and willing to work in all types of weather environments including inclement weather.
• Able and willing to work overtime when required.
• Understanding of the utility industry and operations.
