About the position

The Dispatcher/Office Administrator at FIRST RESPONSE EMS plays a crucial role in managing emergency and non-emergency calls, ensuring efficient communication and coordination among healthcare professionals during medical incidents and inter-facility transports. This position involves logging calls, supervising field units, and maintaining communication systems to prioritize and organize schedules effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Receive and confirm all assignments for the day
  • Calculate time and distance between assignments
  • Coordinate assignments and units, then produce a schedule for approval prior to assigning drivers
  • Communicate with all units operating in the field and know their whereabouts at all times
  • Control all communications via the radio system including landline and cellular communications
  • Keep a log of all communication equipment and its users
  • Institute a system for accountability for units, patients, equipment, and information
  • Keep supervisors updated on the day-to-day operations of the units
  • Organize, allocate, and catalogue all company resources
  • Write and submit accurate reports on incidents
  • Adhere to established medical protocols and procedures as well as legal guidelines and health and safety standards
  • Keep abreast of new guidelines and procedures through continuous training
  • Maintain a clean work environment
  • Perform all other assigned tasks

Requirements

  • 1-2 years of previous experience in a similar role
  • Ability to receive emergency and non-emergency calls and record significant information
  • Skills to address problems and requests by transmitting information or providing solutions
  • Experience in receiving and dispatching orders for products or deliveries
  • Ability to prioritize calls according to urgency and importance
  • Proficiency in using radio, phone, or computer to send crews, vehicles, or other field units to appropriate locations
  • Skills to monitor the route and status of field units to coordinate and prioritize their schedule
  • Ability to provide field units with information about orders, traffic, obstacles, and requirements
  • Experience in entering data in computer systems and maintaining logs and records of calls and activities
