About the position

The Kitchen Steward (Kitchen Utility Worker) at the Atlantic City Convention Center plays a crucial role in maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of all tableware, serving materials, cooking equipment, and small wares. This position requires the employee to wash and sanitize all items to ensure they are free from contamination and ready for use again. The Kitchen Steward must adhere to the highest sanitation standards and follow the guidelines set forth by the Material Safety Data Sheets (M.S.D.S.), food and product safety protocols, and the Food and Beverage Policies and Procedures. This role is essential in supporting the overall operations of the kitchen and ensuring a safe and clean environment for food preparation and service. In addition to washing and sanitizing, the Kitchen Steward is responsible for removing all trash and maintaining the loading and receiving areas in a safe and clean condition. The employee will also stock plates, glasses, pots, utensils, and pans after cleaning, ensuring that all food service areas and equipment are kept in pristine condition. The position requires excellent attendance and availability to work events as scheduled, reflecting the dynamic nature of the venue's operations. The hourly wage for this role is $15.13, and it is classified as a part-time position. This is an evergreen role, meaning applications are accepted on an ongoing basis without a specific deadline. The Atlantic City Convention Center, along with Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall, is a premier venue for live events, and the Kitchen Steward plays a vital part in the behind-the-scenes operations that contribute to the success of these events.

Responsibilities

  • Washes and sanitizes all tableware, serving materials, cooking equipment, and small wares.
  • Ensures the highest sanitation levels for all items previously used to eliminate contamination risks.
  • Utilizes and implements M.S.D.S. criteria, food and product safety, and Food and Beverage Policies and Procedures.
  • Removes all trash and maintains loading and receiving areas in a safe and clean condition.
  • Stocks plates, glasses, pots, utensils, and pans after cleaning.
  • Cleans and sanitizes all food service areas and equipment.

Requirements

  • Experience working in a casual and/or fine dining atmosphere is helpful.
  • High School diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.).
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented, fast-paced, event-driven environment.
  • Ability to communicate with employees, co-workers, management staff, and guests in a clear, business-like, and respectful manner.
  • Possess a valid food handling certificate and alcohol service permit if required by state or federal regulations.
