About the position

The Director of Technology for the Ohio Region at Optum will support the Regional Chief Information Officer in developing and leading IT strategies for the care delivery organization. This role focuses on driving service excellence, overseeing IT operations, and ensuring alignment with business objectives to enhance patient care and operational efficiency. The position emphasizes collaboration with stakeholders, strategic planning, and the development of high-performing teams in a remote work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and analyze key business initiatives and information needs to support and transform operations.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to align business plans with regional objectives.
  • Develop strategic goals and plans for the Information Technology department.
  • Provide leadership in executing IT strategy and operations.
  • Architect IT strategic plans to support innovation and efficiency.
  • Partner with business leaders to identify needs and create cost-effective solutions.
  • Create roadmaps and timelines to drive opportunities across the ecosystem.
  • Communicate IT's vision, goals, and objectives to stakeholders.
  • Define processes and service levels to meet regional requirements.
  • Facilitate relationships with executives, administration, and key vendors.
  • Participate in budget preparation and demand management for IT requests.
  • Provide monitoring reports to ensure budget targets are met.
  • Collaborate with business sponsors to define ROI and conduct post-implementation reviews.
  • Oversee the completion of all IT approved projects for the region.
  • Ensure IT maintains critical infrastructure and applications.
  • Participate in education and meetings to support regional needs.
  • Maintain an accurate Application Inventory.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience delivering quality results in patient care improvement and operational efficiencies.
  • 7+ years of experience with infrastructure and clinical/non-clinical applications.
  • 7+ years of software design, architecture, and implementation experience.
  • 7+ years in designing/developing IT systems and planning implementations.
  • 5+ years of leadership experience in Care Delivery technology.
  • Thorough knowledge of ITIL service management and leading practice strategies.
  • Solid knowledge of technology optimization and capacity limitations.
  • Hands-on knowledge with Linux and Windows systems.
  • Understanding of business processes supported by technology.
  • Expertise with automation and cloud technologies.
  • Proven strategic and business mindset.
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Effective customer service and team motivational skills.
  • Local or willing to relocate to the Ohio region.
  • Legally authorized to work in the US without restrictions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree (MBA, MPH, MSc, etc.)
  • Bachelor's degree in business, Information Technology or related field.
  • ITIL Certification.
  • 5+ years of customer-facing experience with C-level interactions.
  • Experience with monitoring tools like Splunk, Dynatrace, Solarwinds, New Relic.
  • Knowledge of operations lifecycle phases.
