About The Position

The Department of Medicine is soliciting applications for an individual to serve as Director of Programs for the Office of Education in the Department of Medicine. This position supports the direction, leadership of the operational, financial, programmatic, compliance, and personnel activities of the DOM Office of Education, which has grown to include four M3 and M4 clerkships, four core residency programs, 15 ACGME-accredited fellowships, and 6 non-ACGME accredited fellowships. In total, the DOM Office of Education oversees the education-related activities of over 200 medical students, 500 residents and fellows, and 900 teaching faculty. Under the direction of the DOM Vice Chair of Education and the Executive Administrator for Academic Affairs & Administration, the Director of Programs partners closely with stakeholders across the SOM and affiliate hospitals, to coordinate the Department’s UME and GME activities. While the range of duties and responsibilities is broad and varied, the position’s primary focus is on overseeing and supporting the day-to-day operations and human resource and financial management of the DOM’s education programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to program work and seven years of related experience which includes two years at a management level, OR an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.

Responsibilities

  • Directs the strategic planning, development and implementation of a large and complex program or of several smaller programs.
  • Plans, administers and monitors program budgets.
  • Develops short and long term goals and objectives.
  • Oversees related special projects.
  • May represent the program in various national and international settings.
  • May manage the solicitation of funding from foundation, corporate, individual and governmental donors.
  • Collaborates with and seeks the support of representatives from other organizations.
  • Establishes and administers policies and procedures.
  • Supervises staff.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.
  • Exercises supervisory authority over approximately 20 professional staff and coordinators, ensuring organizational effectiveness, appropriate workload distribution, staff development, and alignment with department curricular priorities.
  • Ensure compliance with all ACGME and LCME expectations for all programs, including support for ACGME site visits and responses to citations and areas for improvement (AFIs).
  • Oversee and maintain records of program and trainee GME slots by trainee and hospital to ensure compliance with institutional and healthcare institution expectations.
  • Responsible, in partnership with Division Administrators within DOM to support and oversee Education program budgets, including FTE allocations to faculty.
  • Design and implement onboarding or standard operating procedure handbooks for coordinators and directors, associate directors, and core faculty for clerkships and GME programs.
  • Coordinate and lead regular meetings and workshops for educational staff and faculty to ensure timely communication of updated ACGME and DOM expectations.
  • Develop executive-level communication materials for dissemination to trainees, faculty, and key stakeholders to strengthen the professional reputation of the DOM and advocate for the role of education within the department and school, in partnership with program leaders and communications team.
  • Organize and maintain records related to accreditation requirements, including ACGME surveys, annual program evaluations, and learner and faculty evaluations portfolios.
  • Collaborate with the GME office’s Director and Designated Institutional Official on behalf of DOM training programs as necessary.
  • Serves as the primary administrative lead for education-related contracts within the DOM Office of Education, including affiliation agreements, educational service agreements, training site agreements, and donor- or grant-supported educational initiatives.
  • Collaborates closely with the Emory legal team, contracts office, and institutional partners to ensure all education-related agreements are executed in a timely manner and remain compliant with institutional, regulatory, and healthcare system requirements.
  • Serves as a key administrative liaison for education-focused collaborations that span departments, schools, institutions, or external organizations, ensuring alignment with DOM priorities and educational goals.
  • Partners with development, communications, and program leadership to support donor-funded education initiatives and to ensure appropriate stewardship, reporting, and operational execution.
  • Supports the cultivation of new educational partnerships that advance program growth, innovation, and reputation, in collaboration with departmental and school leadership.
