About the position

The Director of Nutrition Services is responsible for managing the child nutrition program within a school district, ensuring compliance with policies and regulations while promoting quality meal service and customer satisfaction. This role involves overseeing kitchen operations, managing staff, and maintaining relationships with school officials and clients, all while adhering to Opaa!'s core values.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the overall child nutrition program in accordance with Opaa! policies and governmental regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety protocols and maintain kitchen cleanliness.
  • Monitor food quality and oversee daily meal production and service.
  • Conduct weekly meetings with Kitchen Managers and daily huddles with staff.
  • Hire, onboard, train, and manage kitchen staff, ensuring compliance with labor regulations.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication with school district officials and clients.
  • Prepare monthly status reports for the Board of Education and attend board meetings as required.
  • Manage food and labor costs according to established budgets and metrics.
  • Ensure timely completion of HACCP logs and maintain inventory levels.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required; must present documentation upon hire.
  • Minimum of three years of relevant food service experience or one year with an associate's degree.
  • At least one year of customer service or hospitality experience.
  • Working knowledge of kitchen functions and equipment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Basic math skills for recipe adjustments and inventory management.
  • Minimum one year of supervisory experience preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a school nutrition program or similar environment.
  • Knowledge of USDA Professional Standards for school nutrition programs.
