About the position
The Director of Nursing (DON) at VitalCore Health Strategies is a supervisory role responsible for overseeing nursing services in a correctional setting, ensuring that patient care needs are met 24/7. The DON coordinates nursing personnel activities, evaluates nursing care, and collaborates with various departments to achieve operational and clinical performance targets. This position emphasizes leadership, quality improvement, and compliance with healthcare regulations.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate activities of nursing personnel in one or more patient care units.
- Verify that patients' needs are met and evaluate nursing care and patient care unit performance.
- Plan and organize training for staff members.
- Participate in the planning of work for assigned units and coordinate activities with other patient units/departments.
- Monitor and respond to critical incidents at assigned detention centers in a timely manner.
- Conduct routine internal quality improvement monitoring to ensure compliance with contractual and regulatory requirements.
- Support medical staff in improving operations and meeting their goals.
- Conduct meetings with nursing staff and other healthcare team members to promote goal accomplishment and professional development.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in nursing.
- Two years of leadership experience.
- Five years of healthcare administration experience.
- Active unencumbered RN license in the state where the position is located.
- Specialty certification desired (i.e. CCHP, ACHE, etc.).
- Strong critical thinking and decision-making skills.
- Ability to influence and negotiate effective solutions.
- Ability to mentor and develop others.
