About The Position

Subsense is a deep-tech company developing the world’s first non-surgical, bidirectional brain-computer interface powered by plasmonic and magnetoelectric nanoparticles. Our mission is to unlock direct communication between the human brain and AI - starting with medical applications such as stroke recovery and moving toward cognitive enhancement for healthy users. Headquartered in Palo Alto, Subsense brings together leading scientists and engineers to redefine the future of human–machine interaction. Subsense is building a category-defining Brain-Computer Interface — and we’re looking for a Marketing Lead who will make sure the world knows it. In this role, you will own how our company is seen, talked about, and remembered. We're looking for a Director of Market Development who doesn't just analyze markets — but actively shapes them. This is not a market research or business development role in the traditional sense. This is a front-line leadership position at a company that is creating an entirely new category. Your mission: build Subsense's presence, influence, and momentum across the global BCI ecosystem — so that when the market moves, we're already leading it. You will own how we show up in the market: which audiences we reach, which partners we build, which narratives we drive, and how we stay ahead of a field that's moving fast.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in market development, marketing leadership, or go-to-market strategy — ideally in deep tech, medtech, or other complex, science-driven sectors
  • A demonstrated ability to build market presence for technologies without an established playbook
  • Experience growing brands and ecosystems for breakthrough or frontier technologies
  • The ability to turn highly technical concepts into clear, persuasive market narratives
  • Strong communication skills — you can engage scientists, executives, investors, and partners with equal credibility
  • Experience in early-stage or high-growth environments, where speed, ambiguity, and ownership are the norm
  • Strategic thinking paired with a hands-on, builder mindset
  • Comfort with high-stakes, high-reward challenges at the frontier of technology
  • Fluent spoken and written English

Responsibilities

  • Define and execute Subsense's market development strategy — identifying key audiences, channels, and partnerships that drive awareness, credibility, and growth
  • Lead category positioning: shape how the BCI market defines itself, with Subsense at the center of that conversation
  • Build and own relationships with external partners, ecosystem players, research institutions, and media to expand our market reach and influence
  • Translate complex neurotechnology into compelling market narratives that resonate across the tech, medical, and investor communities
  • Monitor industry trends, competitor movements, and emerging players to keep Subsense positioned ahead of the curve
  • Collaborate closely with founders, scientists, and business teams to align market development efforts with company milestones
  • Own brand presence across all market-facing channels — digital, events, thought leadership, and press
  • Manage the marketing and market development budget; measure outcomes with rigor
  • Build and lead a high-performing team as the company scales
