About the position

The Director of Inpatient Services (IPS) is responsible for establishing and executing short and long-term strategies for the business development and operational excellence of the Inpatient Services department. This position plays a critical role in achieving clinical, operational, and financial goals while ensuring high-quality patient care and effective coordination among healthcare providers. The Director will oversee a diverse team, manage significant budgets, and foster relationships with key stakeholders to enhance service delivery across hospitals and skilled nursing facilities (SNFs).

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement market strategies for Hospital and SNF Provider program development, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and objectives.
  • Oversee a team of 18 physicians and 17 advanced providers, ensuring a balance between productivity, quality, and cost. Focus on provider retention, recruitment, and communication.
  • Establish and support complementary programs (e.g., Transitional Care Management, Pre-Operative Services) to enhance patient care and service integration.
  • Manage a $11M budget in net revenue, actively participating in budget development and ensuring achievement of financial targets.
  • Ensure program compliance with institutional requirements, regulatory standards, and billing practices. Monitor documentation, coding, and billing accuracy.
  • Build and maintain relationships with outpatient physicians, hospital specialists, nursing home physicians, and MPG leadership to enhance communication and collaboration.
  • Supervise IPS program staff, including Operations and Inpatient Services Managers, ensuring effective team performance and adherence to departmental objectives.
  • Support the transition from Fee for Service to Pay for Value through effective care coordination with home health, SNF, and specialist networks.
  • Set job objectives, and performance standards, and conduct employee evaluations, including promotions, transfers, and disciplinary actions.
  • Ensure consistent follow-through on deliverables, providing timely updates on projects and meeting deadlines.
  • Demonstrate excellent guest service to internal team members and patients.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in healthcare administration, Business Management, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in healthcare operations, focusing on hospitalist and provider relations management.
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, program development, and team leadership within a healthcare setting.
  • Exceptional communication skills to effectively engage with all levels of the organization and coordinate activities across departments.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify gaps and implement solutions.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of healthcare operations, particularly in hospitalist and provider relations management.
  • Proven ability to manage budgets and achieve financial targets while maintaining high standards of patient care.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
