About the position

The Director of Human Resources (DHR) at Sheridan College provides leadership and support in all areas of human resource management and services. This role encompasses recruitment, employee relations, onboarding, compensation, benefits, training and development, and data management. The DHR will also support Title IX functions and ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations. This position reports to the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) and is focused on fostering a collaborative and service-oriented approach to human resources within the college.

Responsibilities

  • Support College compliance with Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, Americans with Disabilities Act, Equal Employment Laws, Fair Labor Standards Act, Family Medical Leave Act, and other employment-related federal and state regulations.
  • Work closely with the CHRO to develop and implement policies and procedures, plans, and implement procedures for departments and related functions.
  • Responsible for the staff development plan, training and development, individual development plans, and recommendations for staff education for college staff.
  • Provide advice to faculty and staff related to the interpretation, implementation, and legal aspects of Human Resources policies and procedures and interpret federal and state employment regulations.
  • Organize, coordinate, direct, and oversee all functions related to human resources in collaboration with the CHRO.
  • Support College staffing activities including recruitment, interviewing, selection, internal transfers, and the development of the annual Staffing Plan.
  • Ensure faculty compliance and alignment of faculty engagement with HLC standards in collaboration with the Vice President for Academic Affairs.
  • Administer and manage the electronic performance management system for all faculty and staff.
  • Maintain a highly collaborative partnership with other offices for various activities.
  • Support the Title IX Coordinator (CHRO) by understanding Title IX law and its requirements, monitoring implementations and outcomes of Title IX policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Five years of management experience.
  • PHR/SPHR and/or SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP required; if not certified, must agree to attain certification within 18 months from date of hire.
  • Successful human resource management experience (7+ years).
  • Experience in higher education desired.
