About the position

The Director of Human Resources at Charter Oak State College is a strategic leadership role responsible for overseeing all human resource functions, including talent acquisition, employee relations, payroll, and benefits administration. This position requires collaboration with the CSCU system and sister schools to implement best practices and ensure compliance with state regulations. The Director will advocate for employees while promoting a positive workplace culture and managing HR operations effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee a full spectrum of human resource functions including talent acquisition, employee relations, and administrative processing.
  • Implement and execute effective talent acquisition strategies to recruit top-tier employees.
  • Manage the end-to-end recruitment process including interviews, negotiations, and onboarding.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with department heads and campus staff to empower the workforce.
  • Process employee payroll and ensure compliance with state statutes and union agreements.
  • Provide guidance on FMLA leave, ADA accommodations, and other employee-related transactions.
  • Collaborate with state and CSCU protocols to maintain compliance with equal employment opportunities and diversity initiatives.

Requirements

  • Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.
  • Eight years of experience in a human resource role interfacing directly with employees.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office and human resource ERP systems.
  • Knowledge of employment practices related to civil rights and equal employment opportunity.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with diverse faculty, staff, and students.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Human Resource Certification (i.e. SHRM, HRCI, etc.)
  • More than four years of experience in human resource operations in a higher education setting.
  • Experience with CORE CT, the State of Connecticut's ERP System.
