About the position

The Director of Development at Overbrook School for the Blind is a full-time supervisory role responsible for leading fundraising initiatives and promoting philanthropic giving. Reporting directly to the Executive Director/CEO, this position oversees the Development and Communications Committee and manages staff involved in various development functions. The Director is tasked with formulating and achieving fundraising goals, coordinating grant submissions, and ensuring effective donor relations to support the school's mission.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the administration and execution of fundraising programs for general and restricted support.
  • Formulate and attain fundraising goals and strategies approved by the Board of Trustees.
  • Oversee major prospect solicitation activities, including individuals, businesses, and foundations.
  • Strategize and coordinate capital campaigns.
  • Supervise staff responsible for grant research, event planning, and donor acknowledgment.
  • Manage direct mail efforts for philanthropic purposes.
  • Interact regularly with key prospects and steward existing donors.
  • Oversee prospect research and rating processes.
  • Support and coordinate CEO/ED fundraising activities.
  • Serve as staff liaison to the Development and Communications Committee of the Board of Trustees.
  • Oversee proposal development, including writing/editing and budget preparation.
  • Develop print and other fundraising materials.
  • Implement fundraising strategies for competitive government grants.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, non-profit management, education, or a related field.
  • At least seven years of experience in fundraising in the non-profit sector.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Engaging interpersonal skills for donor solicitations.
  • Experience overseeing fundraising for major capital projects.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with the Philadelphia area and philanthropic community.
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking in implementing creative initiatives.
