About the position

The Director of Deli and Pastry Operations at Madison Collective is responsible for overseeing the daily operations and procurement of the Deli and Bakery service departments across multiple stores in the San Francisco Bay Area. This leadership role requires a strong background in grocery and food retail, with a focus on ensuring quality, efficiency, and profitability. The Director will develop strategies to enhance customer experience and drive sales while managing vendor relationships and product presentation.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage relationships with suppliers to ensure quality, timely delivery, and cost-effective procurement of deli and bakery products.
  • Negotiate contracts and pricing with vendors to optimize margins and secure the best deals for the company.
  • Monitor inventory levels across stores, adjusting procurement strategies to prevent shortages or overstocking.
  • Ensure product compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Develop and implement merchandising strategies that increase sales and align with customer preferences.
  • Ensure consistent product presentation, pricing accuracy, and alignment with promotional campaigns.
  • Analyze sales data and market trends to introduce new products and refine existing offerings.
  • Collaborate with marketing teams to create appealing displays, packaging, and advertising.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop store directors, ensuring they have the resources and support needed to achieve objectives.
  • Conduct regular store visits to review operations and ensure compliance with company standards.
  • Establish performance goals for deli and bakery departments and monitor results to ensure they are met consistently.
  • Provide problem-solving support and guidance to store directors.
  • Develop annual budgets for deli and bakery departments and monitor expenses.
  • Evaluate and analyze departmental financial performance to identify opportunities for profitability.
  • Review and approve expenditures related to the deli and bakery departments.
  • Maintain a strong focus on customer service and product quality.
  • Address customer feedback and resolve issues related to deli and bakery products.
  • Implement quality control programs to maintain product freshness and presentation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Food Management, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in deli and/or bakery operations, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Strong background in procurement, merchandising, and vendor management.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in data analysis, budgeting, and financial management.
  • Ability to travel to multiple store locations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the SF market or based in the SF/Bay Area.
  • Strong negotiation skills and knowledge of the food supply chain.
  • Deep understanding of customer trends in deli and bakery products.
