About The Position

The Director of Army Programs will lead the planning, execution, and growth of Army-focused programs within the Program Management organization. Reporting to the Vice President of Programs, this role will oversee a portfolio of complex, high-visibility programs supporting U.S. Army customers, ensuring delivery excellence, compliance with defense acquisition requirements, and alignment with organizational strategic objectives. The Director will lead program managers and cross-functional teams in a matrixed environment, serving as a primary interface with Army stakeholders and driving program performance across cost, schedule, and technical objectives. This role requires deep expertise in defense program execution, strong leadership capability, and the ability to translate mission needs into successful operational outcomes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Minimum of 10–15 years of program or project management experience within the aerospace and defense industry, with significant experience supporting U.S. Army programs.
  • Proven experience managing complex, multi-contract or multi-phase defense programs, including leadership of program managers or large cross-functional teams.
  • Strong knowledge of DoD acquisition processes, FAR/DFARS regulations, and Army program requirements.
  • Demonstrated success managing cost, schedule, and technical performance in a highly regulated environment.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence at executive and customer levels.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, matrixed environment and manage multiple priorities.
  • Active Secret security clearance required; ability to obtain/maintain higher clearance as needed.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with a results-driven mindset.

Nice To Haves

  • Program Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent.
  • Experience leading UAS/UAV or advanced aerospace/defense technology programs.
  • Prior experience supporting U.S. Army customers (e.g., PEOs, PM offices, Army Futures Command).
  • Knowledge of Army acquisition lifecycle, requirements development, and modernization priorities.
  • Lean Six Sigma or Agile certification.
  • Experience supporting capture efforts and business development strategies within the defense sector.
  • Familiarity with subcontractor management and complex supply chain environments.
  • Experience with Earned Value Management (EVM) and program performance reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the strategic planning, execution, and oversight of Army programs, ensuring alignment with organizational goals, customer mission requirements, and contract obligations.
  • Serve as a primary customer interface for Army stakeholders, fostering strong relationships and ensuring effective communication across all levels of the organization.
  • Oversee the full program lifecycle, including capture transition, program initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, and closeout, ensuring delivery within scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Lead and mentor Program Managers and project teams, promoting a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Develop and manage program budgets, forecasts, and resource plans, ensuring effective allocation and financial performance.
  • Own portfolio-level P&L performance, including revenue growth, margin, and forecast accuracy.
  • Ensure compliance with FAR/DFARS, DoD acquisition frameworks, Army-specific requirements, and internal governance processes.
  • Partner with the Business Development team to support growth initiatives, including proposal development, customer engagement, and shaping of future opportunities within Army accounts.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, operations, supply chain, quality, and compliance teams to ensure successful execution of technical programs.
  • Identify program risks and opportunities; implement mitigation strategies and corrective actions for high-impact programs.
  • Translate Army operational and mission requirements into actionable technical and programmatic plans.
  • Prepare and present program status, risks, and strategic recommendations to senior leadership and external stakeholders.
  • Stay informed on Army priorities, defense acquisition trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes impacting program execution.
  • Travel as required based on program needs and customer locations.
  • Assume all other responsibilities as assigned.
