About the position

The Director for Corporate and Foundation Relations at the University of Washington will lead the development and implementation of strategies to enhance private foundation and corporate support for the College of the Environment. This role involves frontline fundraising, strategic planning, and team management to foster relationships with donors and align their interests with the College's initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of 50-75 major corporate and foundation gift prospects using the University's prospect management and tracking system.
  • Implement cultivation and solicitation strategies for each Top 25 foundation/corporate partner.
  • Identify and qualify new prospects, present proposals, and steward existing relationships.
  • Lead the preparation of written proposals and required documentation for top corporate and foundation prospects, working with faculty and academic personnel.
  • Establish and implement stewardship plans for foundation gifts and grants, ensuring compliance with all guidelines and reporting requirements.
  • Establish annual and long-range goals, objectives, and strategies for corporate and foundation relations efforts.
  • Provide strategic leadership in designing and implementing advancement programs to increase support.
  • Develop and maintain an understanding of the College's priorities to match with foundation and corporate interests.
  • Educate faculty and colleagues on funding opportunities and advise on solicitation strategies.
  • Coordinate and plan visits with prospective and existing corporate and foundation donors.
  • Initiate the development of policies, procedures, and best practices related to the Advancement program.
  • Coach and mentor the Associate Director for Corporate and Foundation Relations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree AND at least five years of experience in institutional advancement and/or external relations, with an emphasis on securing major gifts from individuals, corporations or private foundations, preferably in a college or university setting.
  • Experience in securing major gifts and grants, including grant writing experience, preferably supporting environmental science and policy initiatives.
  • Demonstrated success in identifying and securing corporate and foundation gifts/grants.
  • Experience in supervising or mentoring staff.
  • Proven ability to establish, cultivate and steward strong relationships with donors, faculty, staff and volunteers.
  • Ability to identify opportunities where donor passions align with institutional goals to increase private support.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience working effectively with academic leadership, faculty and other executive-level positions.
  • Knowledge of alumni relations/development/advancement principles.
