About the position
The Director of Digital Solutions Engineering at Dover Corporation is a pivotal role that reports directly to the VP of Digital Products. This position is primarily responsible for the research and development of digital products, which involves collaborating with cross-functional teams and executives to explore innovative solutions that can generate revenue. The role requires a blend of strategic thinking and tactical execution, as the director will lead the design, development, production deployment, and maintenance of digital solutions. The ideal candidate will possess a strong ability to communicate the vision and strategy effectively, gaining buy-in from both internal and external stakeholders. This role demands an independent thinker who can synthesize diverse perspectives and manage ambiguity effectively. In this position, the director will oversee the end-to-end digitization of various Dover OpCo products and lead initiatives related to IoT hardware and embedded software solutions. The role also includes acting as a technical liaison for third-party engineering development and ensuring compliance with RF and industrial hazardous certifications. The director will be responsible for maintaining rigorous revision controls for documentation of all software and hardware specifications, as well as staying abreast of cutting-edge innovations and industry trends to create prototypes that add value to customer use cases. Additionally, the director will manage vendor relationships and contracts, provide technical mentorship to teams, and establish best practices for development and deployment across the company. The director will engage with senior leadership to build relationships and provide executive presence through presentations. A strong focus on achieving success goals is essential, as is the ability to hold oneself and the team accountable for delivering on commitments. The role also requires a hands-on leadership approach, acting as a player-coach to elevate team efficiency and effectiveness.
Responsibilities
- Lead end to end digitization of various Dover Opco products.
- Lead IoT hardware & embedded software solutions for Dover wide digital initiatives.
- Act as a technical liaison for 3rd party engineering development, contract manufacturing, and RF and industrial hazardous compliance certifications.
- Maintain rigorous revision controls for documentation of all software and hardware specifications.
- Follow cutting edge innovations, technologies, and industry trends to create value added prototypes relevant to customer use cases.
- Assist with digital product evaluations as part of M&A activity.
- Manage vendors and contracts to maintain balanced teams within budget.
- Provide technical mentorship and project guidance to teams.
- Establish development and deployment best practices, document, and communicate to companywide.
- Create focus and drive to deliver against that focus for digital internal or Opco, customer related initiatives.
- Engage with senior-level corporate and operating company leadership to build relationships and provide executive presence and presentations.
- Demonstrate tenacity in achieving success goals, holding the team and stakeholders accountable for delivery to commitments.
- Act as a player-coach and provide hands-on leadership to the team to elevate team efficiency.
Requirements
- BS in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or equivalent experience required; MS is a plus.
- 10+ years in the software industry experience in a fast-paced environment, working through all phases of the software development life cycle.
- At least 5 years' experience in PLC, embedded software engineering in C/C++.
- Experience in PCB design & development of released products.
- Two or more years of related experience in sensor design and integration.
- Working experience with embedded hardware (e.g.: AVR, Cortex-M, Raspberry Pi or Arduino).
- Proven experience with product strategy and communication via presentations to business executives and technical audiences.
- Experience leading architects and large development teams with agile development methodologies & automated testing, deployment technologies.
- Experience with various industrial control systems (e.g., Siemens, Rockwell).
- Experience with various protocols such as CANbus, BACnet, RS-232, Bluetooth, and Wifi 802.11x protocols.
- Solid working knowledge of analog, digital, and mixed-signal design methods and best practices.
- Strong experience with building products with electronic components, sensors, actuators, and radio interfaces.
- Experience with RF, certifications, measurement, and testing.
- Familiarity with encrypted polyglot persistence options on IoT devices for secure storage and transmission; experience with encryption, security, and networking concepts.
- Experience with Linux or derivatives (i.e., Yocto, Ubuntu) and Windows is desirable.
- Strong analytical, written, verbal, and interpersonal skills required.
- Strong experience with technical project management.
- Effective conflict and impediments management skills, with the ability to build trust and align stakeholders and multi-functional teams.
- A clear, direct, and simple communication style in both verbal and written form that eliminates ambiguity.
- Ability to break down complex issues to their essence and instill focus into teams and customer engagement.
