About the position

The Data Engineering Director at Travelers will lead the development of analytic data products and oversee the modernization of the analytics landscape. This role involves managing teams that design and build data solutions to support AI, Machine Learning, and business intelligence. The director will also mentor data engineers and ensure the operationalization of secure and scalable data capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead development of analytic data products, including pilots and proof of concepts.
  • Execute data strategies with an understanding of enterprise architecture and data engineering best practices.
  • Manage the operationalizing and automating of all capabilities to ensure secure, supported, and scalable solutions.
  • Present analysis and recommendations to help influence management decisions.
  • Guide and coach team members to accelerate career development.
  • Establish team processes and procedures.
  • Maintain relationships with partner teams to ensure needs are met and impacted areas plan work accordingly.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in STEM related field or equivalent.
  • Five or more years of related experience.
  • Two or more years of management experience, with experience building engineering teams from the ground up.
  • Advanced knowledge of data tools, techniques, and manipulation including cloud platforms, programming languages, and technology platforms.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with AWS (s3, Lambda, Kinesis, etc.), Databricks, Python, JavaScript, Kafka, dbt, Terraform, Snowflake, SQL, Jenkins, Github, Airflow, OpenSearch, Talend, Alation, Neo4j, Hashicorp Vault, Docker.
  • Knowledge of Real-time & Batch Data Processing, Workload Orchestration, Cloud, Datalakes, Data Security, Networking, Serverless, Testing/Test Automation, WebServices, DevOps, Logging, Monitoring, and Alerting.
