About The Position

The Director plans, implements, and directs the administrative and fiscal functions for several clinical and research departments in the College of Medicine. Responsibilities include budgeting, personnel management, strategic planning and staffing. This encompasses oversight and responsibility for all departmental administrative and finance functions, including salary administration, purchasing and payments, contracts, budgeting, staff management, policy compliance, and other administrative duties, for the department.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
  • Four (4) years of progressive professional work experience preferably in an academic, medical center, or complex research institution; OR Master’s Degree and two (2) years of progressive professional work experience preferably in an academic, medical center, or complex research institution.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively (both written and oral) with executives, researchers, vendors, and employees.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the management issues in a highly complex educational and research environment.
  • Demonstrated senior-level ability to define issues, strategically plan options, and devise and implement workable solutions.
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in human resources management.
  • Demonstrated senior-level leadership, strategic partnership, and negotiation skills.
  • Strong financial and analytical expertise in budget, forecasting, development, and management.
  • In-depth understanding of regulations applicable to sponsored programs.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures the most effective operations of the unit through program development, process improvement, and the coordination/integration of processes with other departments.
  • Manages and directs the department's operational relationship with research and practice plan partners.
  • Specific duties include the direction of processes and tasks related to faculty support, compensation, budgeting, purchasing, payments, contracts, staff management, and other administrative duties.
  • Directs all departmental pre- and post-award activities, including budget development, financial reporting, and monitoring expenditures to ensure compliance with appropriate guidelines and regulations.
  • Directs and manages space analysis and allocation processes.
  • Resolves problems and issues across a wide variety of functions.
  • Manages and oversees all functions related to personnel, including recruitment, interviewing, hiring, training, counseling, discipline, and evaluations.
  • Manages and directs the departments' operational relationship with hospitals and practice plan partners.
  • Directs all departmental purchasing, accounts payable and payroll functions.
  • Approves expenditures, determine appropriate sources of funding, and ensures appropriate records are maintained.
  • Manages departmental effort certification process.
  • Negotiates and manages a variety of complex contracts and leases.
  • Collaborates with department chair and division chiefs, defining performance expectations for all financial and administrative functions.
  • Participates in interdepartmental committees to address problems, identify and share best practices, and facilitate information exchange.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
