About the position
The Direct Support Specialist (IDD) role involves supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in their homes and communities to foster independence and enhance their quality of life. The position emphasizes building respectful relationships, promoting community inclusion, and ensuring adherence to care plans while providing assistance with daily living activities.
Responsibilities
- Assist individuals with informed decision making to enable positive outcomes in daily living activities, including personal care and household chores.
- Promote social opportunities and community inclusion for individuals supported.
- Encourage independence by providing quality decision-making opportunities.
- Follow all care plans, including proper administration of medications.
- Monitor, report, and document individuals' status, implementing care plans and goals as needed.
- Model and maintain a positive, supportive, and productive team environment in various settings.
- Maintain required training, including Safety Care, CPR/AED/1st Aid, Human Rights, and HIPAA.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
- Valid Driver's License with a good driving background.
- Minimum of 2 to 3 years experience as a Direct Support Professional or Milieu Therapist.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
