About the position

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) role at Beacon Specialized Living Services involves providing essential support to individuals with intellectual disabilities and mental health needs. This position is designed for those who are passionate about helping others achieve their goals and live fulfilling lives. No prior experience is required, making it an excellent entry point into the healthcare field. DSPs will engage in various activities, including personal care, meal preparation, and medication administration, while fostering a safe and trusting environment for residents.

Responsibilities

• Provide opportunities through the day to help residents meet their goals.
• Adhere to the person-centered plans and behavior plans as written for each resident.
• Provide quality of care and maintain a safe and healthy setting free from harm while upholding the rights of all residents.
• Create a space of trust and relationship with all residents.
• Cook meals as necessary for residents based upon food specifications, diets, food exchanges, and documentation.
• Transport residents and attend appointments, advocate, and obtain necessary documentation when needed.
• Assist with supervision of residents doing their laundry and complete facility laundry as needed.
• Administer medications to residents as needed.
• Remain awake and immediately accessible in all homes requiring 24/7 care.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED is strongly preferred, but not required.
• 1-2 years of previous experience preferred, but not required.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
• Must possess a valid Driver's License.
• Ability to work in an environment with the potential for exposure to physical aggression from individuals served.
• Ability to physically and emotionally work with individuals who possess mental illness and co-occurring disorders.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in healthcare or support roles is a plus.
