About the position

Heavenly Hands, Inc. is seeking a Direct Support Professional (DSP) to provide essential support services to a male individual with an Intellectual Disability. The DSP will assist the individual in developing daily living skills and adapting to community environments, ensuring a high quality of life and independence. This part-time position involves working rotating weekends and possibly some weekdays, with a focus on empowering the individual and maintaining their health and well-being.

Responsibilities

  • Assist and train individuals in a home setting to maintain health status and develop skills in Activities of Daily Living (ADLs).
  • Empower and support individuals in developing their own lifestyle.
  • Train in functional skills related to personal care such as toileting, bathing, grooming, dressing, and eating.
  • Train in functional skills related to the use of community resources including transportation, shopping, and recreational activities.
  • Monitor health and physical condition, assisting with medication and medical needs as required.
  • Assist with personal care and ensure hygiene and eating needs are met.
  • Train in adapting behavior for home and community, including redirecting anger and handling social encounters.
  • Document all services as required by agency procedures and regulatory standards.
  • Read and follow the Individualized Service Plan (ISP) for individuals.
  • Complete and submit required daily paperwork and monthly progress reviews according to agency guidelines.
  • Demonstrate understanding of Human Rights Rules and Regulations and uphold the Human Rights Plan.
  • Perform physical tasks such as bending, stooping, sitting, standing, reaching, and lifting items weighing at least 50 pounds.
  • Travel throughout Hampton Roads and the Peninsula, with mileage reimbursement offered.
  • Complete pre-employment drug testing and random drug/alcohol testing throughout employment.
  • Perform other duties as directed.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • High School or GED Diploma preferred.
  • One year of work experience with the Intellectually/Developmentally Disabled population preferred, but training is available.
  • Access to a personal vehicle for client transport is required, along with proof of current insurance.
  • Must consent to a criminal records check, including a fingerprint check.
  • Valid VA driver's license required with an acceptable driving record.
  • Must complete a TB Screening.
  • Must complete all required trainings in a timely manner, including DD Staff Orientation Test, Staff Competencies, TOVA, and First Aid/CPR/AED.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with individuals with Intellectual Disabilities.
  • Current certifications in First Aid/CPR/AED.
