About the position

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays a vital role in providing compassionate care and support to individuals with developmental and physical disabilities. This position involves assisting clients in their daily activities, promoting independence, and ensuring a safe and nurturing environment. The DSP will work closely with clients to enhance their quality of life through various support services, including personal care, meal preparation, and community engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Assist clients with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, dressing, and grooming.
  • Provide patient observation to monitor clients' physical and emotional well-being.
  • Support individuals in home community care settings, ensuring a comfortable and safe living environment.
  • Engage clients in meaningful activities that promote social interaction and skill development.
  • Prepare nutritious meals tailored to the dietary needs of clients.
  • Offer assistance with medication management as required.
  • Implement care plans designed to meet the unique needs of each individual.
  • Provide direct support during hospice care when necessary, ensuring dignity and comfort for clients.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of client progress and any changes in behavior or health status.
  • Foster a positive relationship with clients while respecting their privacy and dignity.

Requirements

  • Experience in patient care or direct support roles is preferred.
  • Knowledge of working with individuals with developmental disabilities is highly desirable.
  • Skills in dementia care and first aid are beneficial for providing comprehensive support.
  • Ability to perform meal preparation while considering dietary restrictions and preferences.
  • Strong observational skills to effectively monitor client behavior and health changes.
  • Patience, empathy, and excellent communication skills are essential for building rapport with clients.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings or weekends as needed.
